‘Happy 50 ‘Weatherman’: From Rebellion To Extinction’ with Jeff Laster

Wednesday November 20 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

£1 – £5

The radical WEATHERMAN group (a.k.a. WEATHER UNDERGROUND) was created 50 years ago this year and for the next several years played a leading role in the radical left in the U.S. It took its name from the Bob Dylan’s lyric, “You don’t need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows”. That Dylan line was also the title of a position paper distributed at an Students for a Democratic Society convention in Chicago on June 18, 1969. This founding document called for a “white fighting force” to be allied with the “Black Liberation Movement” and other radical movements to achieve “the destruction of U.S. imperialism and form a classless communist world”.

With the help of the Housman’s audience, Ex-Weatherman Jeff Laster will look at the lessons we can learn from both the Rise and the Fall of this legendary group. He will look at the reasons for its relevancy in 1969 and the reasons for its complete irrelevancy (extinction!) in 2019.

Jeff Laster has been involved in  the ‘Alternative Culture’ all his adult life both in the USA and in the UK.
