About the shop
We are an independent bookshop, based in Kings Cross, London since 1959. We specialise in books, magazines, and periodicals of radical interest and progressive politics, such as feminism, black politics, LGBTQIA+, environment, anarchism. We also host events and book groups throughout the year.
Magazines and Periodicals
We stock the largest range of radical pamphlets, newsletters, newspapers and magazines of any shop in Britain. including many titles that are hard to find elsewhere. These magazines offer opinion and reportage frequently unavailable in the mainstream media: viewpoints pacifist, libertarian, anarchist, green, socialist, marxist, trotskyist and more in a broad range of left-field political opinion journals. If you have a journal you think would fit into our range please contact us.
Deep down in the Housmans basement we have a vast, diverse, and ever-changing selection of second-hand books at the truly bargain price of £1.
There are lots of great titles, primarily politics and fiction, but also a lot more besides. There’s always new stock coming in, so do drop in regularly to get the best of the bunch.
Greeting and Political Cards
We stock a unique and specially chosen range of greetings cards, including political cards, art cards, and hand-painted cards on hand-made paper. Stock is always changing so come by and browse.
Coffee & Tea
Housmans is proud to stock Zapatista coffee from our friends at Cafe Libertad. Cafe Libertad workers visit Mexico regularly to keep in direct contact with the coffee producers, collectives and insurgents. We have no doubts about the value this coffee plays in supporting the revolutionary struggle both in Mexico and worldwide.
We have a huge range of postcards, political and otherwise, for you to send to your friends, stick on your wall or start a collection. We stock vintage protest and peace movement postcards, as well as contemporary.
We always keep a large selection of badges, including some archival classics.
