At this time of resurgence within the British trade union movement, with union, wildcat and even consumer strikes breaking out across the country, the timing couldn’t be better for this sale of books on trade unionism, work and feminism, as donated to Housmans by Professor Judy Wajcman.

Judy is the Anthony Giddens Professor of Sociology at LSE and a Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute, where she is the Principal Investigator on the Women in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence research project. For more info on her and her work please visit

The collection of several hundred books includes many rare titles on the politics of women’s work, women in trade unions and also in management. As usual with Housmans library sales the books are priced primarily at £1 and £3, with an occasional £5 title in there too. The sale kicks of from Friday 9th Aug 2022 and will go on while stocks last, and can be found downstairs in our Vaults.
Our sincerest thanks to Judy for the donation, and solidarity with all strikers! Don’t forget Housmans offers a 10% discount to anyone who is a member of a trade union (in-store sales only).
