Two Twitter accounts we are involved in facilitating have been suspended, those for the Alliance of Radical Booksellers and for the Anarchist Festival. There was no warning, and no explanation given. Certainly there was nothing posted on those accounts that violated Twitter’s codes of conduct.
Complaints, or even requests for information as to what has happened, are utterly ignored by Twitter. An attempt to get an explanation from Twitter by a journalist supporter has also been ignored.
We can’t say for certain what has happened, but the conclusion we are drawing is that the most likely explanation is that the accounts have been subject to malicious reports from right wing activists. Word has reached us that there has been a spate of this in recent weeks amongst other activists. Housmans account was mysteriously suspended of late also. If a malicious attack is the reason, then this is nothing less than political censorship by Twitter.
As it stands there is nothing we can do to stop it. Twitter offers no process of defence. And so we are left with having to start the accounts again.
Please could you follow these two accounts, and if possible spread the word out of solidarity
