JOHN BERGER CENTENARY CELEBRATION

Thursday November 26 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

TOM OVERTON AND KEN WORPOLE DISCUSS THE LIFE OF THE BELOVED CRITIC

Housmans are delighted to taking part in the massive nation wide celebration of John Berger’s centenary!

To help us we have drafted in two writers who know Berg’s work intimately: Tom Overton, author of a magnificent, definitive biography, John Berger: From Life (Allen Lane) and the social historian and architecture critic (and lifelong Berger devotee) Ken Worpole. The conversation will be focused on Tom’s biography, as a well as few of the pairs favourite titles from the beloved critic; particularly the elusive ‘peasant novel’ Pig Earth (currently out of print) and the essay collection Landscapes (Verso).

Ken and Tom’s conversation shall last for around 45 minutes to an hour, followed by an open discussion with the audience. We do encourage people to come prepared with questions and anecdotes – this is a celebration, so in the spirit of that drinks and snacks will also be supplied, and you are welcome to bring your own as well.

As always, tickets are priced on a sliding scale. If you are unable to pay for a ticket please do not hesitate to contact us at shop@housmans.com, and a free ticket will be made available.

If you choose ‘book + entry’ your copies of the book will be available to collect on the evening. If you would like to collect it earlier, or arrange for delivery, please contact us (postage is £2.95). Telephone 020 7837 4473 or email shop@housmans.com.
